Great sand but…
Updated 2/27/24 to include video of #4 I’ve found. This plant is in a chunky mix I created specifically for Monstera and sterilized. It is not in a purchased potting soil mix. There’s actually no soil. So these are definitely coming from the sand.I have a lot of house plants and start veggies and flowers for my garden indoors. Naturally, with that much soil, fungus gnats are never too far behind regardless of what methods are used to avoid them. They will always pop up here and there.Enter this sand. Initially, I used it on the top layer of potting mix for plants in my basement near grow lights. I would go down every day or 2, but didn’t notice anything out of place. I recently potted up a large Monstera Deliciosa that is located in my living room. A few weeks later, the gnats appeared. I used some of this sand to cover the top of it. Now that it’s in my vision, I see little larva appearing on top of the sand every couple of days. So far, 3. I don’t know what they are, but they aren’t on or around any of the plants without sand. So, it works for keeping gnats at bay, but you may be introducing something else you were unprepared for.-the photo is one of the larva I just realized was attached to a sticky trap for gnats-

I found this product as a reference from another soil cover product, which was designed specifically to handle gnats. The idea with the other product was that the synthetic material couldn’t hold any moisture, and made it impossible for gnats to land on and lay eggs. Or for the larvae to surface. That product was no longer available, but the webpage promoting it recommended this brand of sand as their top choice for handling fungus gnats.

I tried Mosquito Bits but wasn’t having any luck. People on YouTube were saying that it would take 3-4 waterings, but after 2, I didn’t see any reduction. I’m sure it does work for a lot of people. Also tried the neem oil thing, but it only seemed temporary (a few hours). The gnat infestation had already been going on for over a month, and I wasn’t comfortable handling the bits.

The sand worked almost instantly. I poured a layer in the pot about an inch thick. Didn’t even wait for the soil to dry, just put it right in. First night the yellow sticky mats had an 80% reduction in gnats. By day 2 there was maybe a handful of additional gnats. They’re not flying around anymore or showing up in random places. Day 3 - 99% reduction. I expect they’ll be 100% gone soon, as the ones flying around now are stragglers that already left the soil days ago before the sand was applied.

If I had to do it all over again, I’d just get this and the yellow sticky paper and forget any of the other stuff. Plus it looks cool in the pot and gives it a nice finished look.

Be careful if u order with other items. Amazon shipped me seven pounds of this in a bag. With two cases of cat food and candy. For consumption. It burst and was all over. But the sand seems to be of good quality for gardening at a good price

I love that this is genuine sand!
I live in FL and outside in the ground, where the Air Conditioning condensation line drain drips into, was getting to become a big puddle. It was attracting all kinds of bugs. I realized mulch and dirt weren't the solution, because they just can't absorb all that water, especially when the sun isn't out and the ground stays wet. Don't expect the HOA to solve this problem, they just go for the cheap mulch, which is how the problem got worse.
So, I decided to go with nature, and buy this Mosser Lee Sand. I had to buy many bags of this, but it has been great ! It blends well with the ground's dirt, and it absorbs the water fine. I may see a tiny puddle from time to time, and have to rearrange the sand, but it's no big puddle like it was before. It really makes the outside look more normal and natural.

Holy cow this stuff was expensive but I purchased several bags. I put it around my indoor plants to kill the fungus gnats. It works! I had to do about a 1/4 inch thick but thankfully it worked. 4 stars only because of the high pric.

Good to use as a thin layer on top of house plant soil. This kind of sand stops those tiny little gnat flies from getting into (or out of) the soil. They used to annoy us by flying in our eyes or up our nose. Not anymore! Those little gnats have been stopped. Yay!

I bought this sand to make my own snuff ashtray. I picked it because the color is pretty and has specs of other colors that make it less bland. It has natural moisture (Not wet), that you can bake the sand at 200 degrees for a few minutes to dehydrate it. It's usual able as is if you don't want hyper dry sand. A very good deal.

Not worth the price, I impulse purchased it, I guess for me it just wasn't enough sand - plus I realized later there is less expensive sand at the hardware store. But it was nice sand anyways just a bit steep $ imo
